I let the neck sandwich dry overnight. I forgot to mention in the previous post that I used Titebond wood glue for this. I thought some special instrument builder’s adhesive or 2 part epoxy would be recommended, but after some research it seemed that standard wood glue is best. When the pieces are clamped they slip around so it is difficult to keep them aligned perfectly so after the glue was dry I ran the assembly through the table saw to make the sides straight and parallel. One of these edges will have the fretboard glued to it so it must be straight.
Above is a tracing of the template that was provided in Constructing a 5-String Banjo on top of the neck blank. The template is for a neck meant to attach to an 11in diameter rim, and I am building a 12in diameter rim so I need to shorten the neck by 1/2in in order to keep the length of the strings correct. I’ll make this minor adjustment when I trace the template onto the blank. I’ll shorten the neck at the point just before it turns into the heel on the left in this picture.
